The exhibition was based on the American West as a concept, myth, landscape, history and home to dream of the ultimate freedom - not just in America but also the rest of the world. We know it from Western films, from photograph, from concepts like freedom. It is not just American, but all over the world we grew up with those values.
The artist Mette Juul has for many years photographed and filmed in the American West - particularly in North Dakota. It has been the focal point of her practice and therefore she has curated this exhibition at the Exhibition Space Station Sydhavns Station about the West. Mette Juul invited artists from both America and Denmark and common to them all is that in various ways are fascinated and inspired by the American West. The invited artists were working with with video, photography, sculpture and installation. Artists are Chelsea Knight, Steffani Jemison, Anna Bak, Adam Jeppesen, Christina Labey, Sylvia Hardy and Mette Juul.
